Hi. I'm Abby Sumbler.

I'm a Certified Doula, Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator,
and a Certified Lactation Counselor.

My Mission:

To provide support and education for birthing people to reach their birth goals.

Why I am a doula:

I am a doula because I've had great doulas. The doulas with the birth of my first child were supportive during a long pregnancy and labor. They reminded me of my own inner strength and helped me in a way no one else could.

The birth of my second child was by an unplanned C-section. I was glad my doula could be with me in recovery while my husband went with our son to the NICU.

The powerful experience of my first birth as a doula:

My very first birth was with a friend of mine, she knew I had done the (doula) workshop and was kind enough to let me support her in the birth of her third baby. When her call came in the early hours of the morning, she was having trouble getting ahold of her babysitter, so her whole family (husband and two kids) and I were up at the hospital. Her husband was with her to get her settled and I stayed with the children. He came out of the labor and delivery unit to “tag me in.”

She was in active labor and progressing quickly. Once it was time to push, I asked if she wanted me to call her husband back in. “No,” she said, “We knew this was a possibility, and he’s fine staying in the waiting room and coming in later. This is your first birth as a doula.” I was stunned and grateful. She pushed like a champ and baby was born! My friend cut the cord herself and held her newest son skin-to-skin. I was hooked! I cried. And I haven’t been able to get through a birth without getting a little misty-eyed so far.
